Mervyn J. Cross O.A.M
Dr Mervyn Cross specialises in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee. He has particular interests in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and total knee replacement.
Dr Mervyn Cross graduated from Sydney University Medical School in 1965 and was awarded his Fellowship of Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1970. He then commenced a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Tulane University, Louisiana followed by a Fellowship in Knee Surgery at the Hughston Clinic in Georgia. In 1999, Dr Cross was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from University of New South Wales.
He commenced practice in 1974, since that time Dr Cross has built up an unequalled reputation for excellence in knee surgery, particularly in knee reconstruction and knee replacement. He has numerous clinical publications to his credit and has been a leader in the development of fellowship programs and orthopaedic training.
In 1979 Dr Cross established the North Sydney Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Centre in Sydney.
Dr Mervyn Cross was awarded the L.O. Betts Medal at the 2011 Annual Scientific meeting of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He received the Order of Australia Medal in 1995.
Dr Cross was the director of Orthopaedics for the Sydney 2000 Olympics and a member of the board of the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) from 1999 to 2005. In 2007 Dr Cross was inducted into the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Hall of Fame, having been a member of AOSSM since 1972.
